Eat, Drink, and Be Scary: 5 Easy Halloween Foods

5 Easy Halloween foods

It’s almost time for Halloween!! I love making a fuss over the holidays but I need everything to be super easy right now. I’ve put together and tested 5 Easy Halloween Foods to help you throw a party, pack a themed lunch, and basically make you look like the super hero that you are with minimal effort and supplies. All that’s left for you to do is eat, drink, and be scary with the ones you love.

Eat, Drink, and Be Scary: 5 Easy Halloween Foods

Monster Doughnuts

Our kiddos actually LOVED this idea so much that they requested to show everyone and did a facebook live video about it on our page. This little food activity is perfect for a group or class activity too.

Jack’O lantern Fruit cups

supplies: orange fruit cups, sharpie

Seriously, What can sharpies not transform?!

Witches Broomsticks

supplies: mini Reese’s cups, stick pretzels

Halloween witches brooksticks

Tip: I do refrigerate these a bit after I make them so that the chocolate hardens up a bit around the pretzel and they stay together better.

supplies: your choice of bread rolls, lettuce, turkey, witch legs/hat toothpicks ( these found at Michael’s)

Everyone thought these were adorable and all I did was push a few cute toothpicks in. I mean, I was going to make their lunches anyway, right???

Halloween Fruit & Cheese Skewers

supplies: orange/black skewers, cheddar cheese cubes, black seedless grapes, blackberries

If you are running short on creativity and time, THIS is for you. You can’t go wrong with orange and black for Halloween treats and fruit and cheese is a hit with any crowd. Alternate cheese and fruit and you are all set.

I hope this has been a help to you and that you all aren’t judging me for not baking from scratch, creating an actual recipe, or something. The reality is we have to know our limits. Sometimes those restrictions are because of limited hours in a day and sometimes we just have to balance things. For me, this season is about bringing joy and keeping myself sane and it requires simple things. Simple can still be cute.

What easy, festive treats/crafts have you made this holiday season? Comment here or on facebook with your ideas or suggestions.

Plan the Perfect Tailgating Party #TailgateTraditions

This post was written by me through an activation with HireInfluence on behalf of Community Coffee. Although I received compensation for participating in the campaign, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

There are a few words that are synonymous with fall : crisp air, multicolored leaves, pumpkins, football, and coffee. In the south, fall mostly means football and that means tailgating. I have to confess LOVE tailgating season, not because I love sport, because I love seeing people getting together and enjoying life.

There is always so much great food, friends, and fun that this time of year brings together. I am a firm believer that tailgating can begin as early in the day as you like. Typically though, plan on 3 to 4 hours before the game to set up. That should give you plenty of time to cook the food, play some games and just hang out with your group. Don’t forget to factor in some time to break everything down once you’re done.

If you have a solid tailgating group of friends and family, assigning 1-2 things per household makes it easy to make sure you have everything. Put someone in charge of food, someone in charge of the grill and another in charge of sides. Don’t forget the utensils, plates, cups, and garbage bags. We have claimed the “coffee bar/desert station” as our tailgating contribution.

If you decide to set up a coffee bar like this at your next tailgating get together you could win BIG! This year, Community Coffee Company is partnering with Southwest Airlines® for its annual Instant Win Sweepstakes game and sweepstakes, Tailgate Traditions. 2 million packages of Community® coffee will give fans a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to Houston for the Big Game along with over 500 instant win prizes.

To participate in the sweepstakes all consumers have to do is purchase specially-marked packages of Community Coffee, including ground coffees and K-Cup boxes in a variety of blends and flavors. Each package will have an on-pack sticker containing a unique game code that will need to be entered online at for the chance to win. Community Coffee Company has also created a Tailgate Traditions Recipe Booklet. It features five game day recipes using Community® coffee. A Paddington Movie Night Party

*Thanks to BSM Media and Starz for providing a digital movie download and party kit for our fun Paddington movie night!

Paddington may have traveled from darkest Peru to the hustle and bustle of London, but you can join in on his adventures right from your living room starting tonight with a Paddington Party!  April 17th was the first day the Paddington Movie was available for download and we planned a movie night to celebrate.

Paddington Movie

This week had been pretty busy with my husband traveling and with him still being away I hadn’t had much time to plan. Luckily for me, & had a ton of resources to help me to throw everything together for our fun family time. It was fantastic to have a extra special event with my family that allowed me to enjoy the moments with them.

Paddington Snacks

If your family  Friday nights are anything like ours, we like to keep them simple, fun, and relaxing. Dinner called for pizza delivery. Somehow this always feels special to the kiddos. While we waited, I printed up some fun word searches.

I also instructed everyone to bring out their favorite teddy bear for our movie night. They were a little curious about what they would be doing with their own bear but I assured them it would be staying with them. We read a short book to introduce them to Paddington’s story. I loved Paddington as a child and even my baby book was Paddington Bear themed. I always thought it was unique theme and enjoyed sharing that part of my story with them before we watched the movie together.

Paddington Party bear tags

I had printed a sheet of simple gift tags ahead of time and attached a bit of string to them. Then I had the kids write the famous Paddington phrase “Please Look after this Bear. Thank You” on each of their tags.

They had a lot of fun with that activity and I think it made it very sentimental for them even the older kids, remembering how special their bears from childhood were to them.

Snacks for movie night were simple and fun too. Popcorn and Cinnamon Teddy Grahams presented with flare.

The girls also whipped up some delicious cupcakes for an intermission treat. That’s one great thing about at-home movie parties- you can pause halfway through for refreshments and potty breaks for everyone.

Paddington party movie night

The Paddington movie was both entertaining and heartwarming for the various age ranges in our family. From our oldest teenagers to our youngest in elementary, everyone sat together through the entire movie. I still missed Randy being away but having the majority of the family together on one sofa made my heart full. I highly recommend you download the movie today and watch with your family. It is one I anticipate to be requested for future movie nights.

Here’s a peek at the trailer:

A couple of days after our party, I printed up our party selfie with our bears and added Paddington into the shot too. I wrote a little Thank You on the picture with each of the kids favorite movie quote and placed them on their pillows before they got home from school. They LOVED that.  Sometimes it really is doing something that surprises them that gives the biggest delight in their day. I just always want them to know how special and loved they are.

Disney Magic Arrived on our Doorstep #DisneySide

DisneySide Minnie Mickey

A couple of weeks ago we got a huge surprise in our inbox from Disney Parks and the BSM media team congratulating us on being selected as hosts for a Disney at Home Celebration! They told us to start making plans for our own Disney Side party and to be expecting a box of Disney magic to arrive sometime in the next couple of weeks. So exciting!! We all love Disney around here and look forward to every opportunity to show our #DisneySide.

Disney Magic Arrived on our Doorstep

DisneySide Doorstep Kids 1

The kids had been waiting with much anticipation, asking each day after school if the Disney box had arrived. It was fun to see their excitement ( I didn’t let on that I was tracking the package through UPS my Choice so I knew exactly when it would arrive.)  Needless to say, yesterday when our HUGE box ( weighing over 20 lbs!) was delivered they were ecstatic! I totally peeked inside beforehand but I wanted them to be the ones to share the fun of un-boxing the Disney magic for all of you.

This may compare me to a Disney villain but since our box arrived on a school night, I made everyone complete their homework and dinner before I allowed them to break the seal on our pixie dust sprinkled package. Finally, it was time. We donned our mouse ears and began the show.

We’ve got our mouse ears on and we are about to open our #DisneySide box!! Here we go!!

( please excuse the vertical video… it was nearing bedtime and homework x4 had my mind wrapped up in math equations for the evening. )

There will be more Disney tutorials, snacks, and crafts as we decide on all the fun we will mix into this years party. Until then you can see all the #DisneySide fun we had with our 2014 Disney Vacation planning party here!

And the Winner is…….86th Annual Waxahachie Chamber Awards Banquet

86th Annual Waxahachie Chamber Awards Banquet

One of the greatest things about being involved in your community is the opportunity to celebrate its achievements. Our family is blessed to be a part of an ever expanding city with exceptional businesses, industries, and inspiring community leaders. This week gave us another opportunity to do this as it marked the 86th Annual Waxahachie Chamber Awards Banquet.

The Waxahachie Civic center was beautifully decorated Academy Awards fashion in honor of the arriving guests and nominees. The evenings events are similar to that of an Oscars event too, with all nominees present and the winners officially announced at the event.

It was an honor to see the beautifully decorated room quickly packed out with so many who diligently serve to make this community great. The Waxahachie Chamber did a wonderful job honoring the many contributions to our city that evening, those present and those who have passed. To say it was inspiring would be an understatement.

And of course my handsome date for the evening….
