5 Easy Halloween foods

It’s almost time for Halloween!! I love making a fuss over the holidays but I need everything to be super easy right now. I’ve put together and tested 5 Easy Halloween Foods to help you throw a party, pack a themed lunch, and basically make you look like the super hero that you are with minimal effort and supplies. All that’s left for you to do is eat, drink, and be scary with the ones you love.

Tip: I do refrigerate these a bit after I make them so that the chocolate hardens up a bit around the pretzel and they stay together better.

Sand”witches”

supplies: your choice of bread rolls, lettuce, turkey, witch legs/hat toothpicks ( these found at Michael’s)

Everyone thought these were adorable and all I did was push a few cute toothpicks in. I mean, I was going to make their lunches anyway, right???

Halloween Fruit & Cheese Skewers

supplies: orange/black skewers, cheddar cheese cubes, black seedless grapes, blackberries

If you are running short on creativity and time, THIS is for you. You can’t go wrong with orange and black for Halloween treats and fruit and cheese is a hit with any crowd. Alternate cheese and fruit and you are all set.

I hope this has been a help to you and that you all aren’t judging me for not baking from scratch, creating an actual recipe, or something. The reality is we have to know our limits. Sometimes those restrictions are because of limited hours in a day and sometimes we just have to balance things. For me, this season is about bringing joy and keeping myself sane and it requires simple things. Simple can still be cute.

Treats not Tricks

When kids are having to spend lots of time indoors, filling them up with sugary confections with no where to burn off the extra energy is a very frightening thought so opting for these treats may help keep things fun and under control.

Dark Chocolate covered apples– Take a twist on the traditional caramel covered apples. The pairing of dark chocolate and apples create an antioxidant-rich dynamic duo that may help protect your heart.

Spiders on a log– This concept is pretty self explanatory just adorn your almond butter filled celery sticks with a plastic spider or two.

Mandarin Oranges made into pumpkins

Cheese Stick ghosts

Peepshi = Peeps + Sushi

Peepshi

Don’t let the kids have all the fun this Easter. Grown ups need a little marshmallow-sugar- encrusted fun too. The solution to this dilemma : Peepshi. and it will leave you with the most sophisticated sugar high yet.

I was introduced to the Peepshi craze by my neighbor, Jenn , who was whipping up a batch of these adorable and delicious treats earlier this week. Both the ingredient list and process are fairly simple. I advise 2 things before beginging: 1) have a scrap bowl ready otherwise you will find yourself devouring little bits of peep that lead to a BIG sugar high before the end is near. 2) Invite a friend because everything is more fun with a friend!

peepshi ingredients

To get started all you will need:

  • a Pizza Cuter
  • Fruit by the Foot
  • Peeps, in bunny or chicks form (or both! )
  • a sheet of Pre-made Rice Krispies. Its much easier to make once the marshmallow has set up a little at room temperature.

Start out by laying a length of Fruit by the Foot onto the Sheet of Rice Krispies

Cutting peepshi

Cut into length to form a roll around your choice of Peep

formin peepshi

Wrap Fruit by the Foot around the Peep roll you just formed

rolling peepshi

Ta-Da – You just made Peepshi! We got a little creative and made several varieties. Have fun with it and don’t forget to add chopsticks and a small dish of chocolate for a soy sauce effect.

lots of peeps

Have you ever made Peepshi? What are your favorite non-traditional Peep recipes?

4 Fun Photo Ideas for the BEST Holiday Cards #HolidayCardPhotos

This is a sponsored post through Global Influence. All opinions are mine.

I love the idea of sending Christmas cards. While it’s true that I love the idea of sending Christmas cards, in reality they usually end up being New Year’s cards by the time I’ve actually sent them to my intended loved ones. Keepin’it real y’all, keepin.it.real.   This is why my favorite cards to send and receive are photo cards. Laughter and merriment are not holiday specific which seems to best fit my mailing timeline. I also keep every photo card we’ve gotten through the years because I love seeing my friends faces as we unpack out our holiday decor. If you have happened to send a particularly fun photo it may get to stay out all year- feel free to take this as a challenge.

Christmas 2006 smile

The photo above is an old one of ours ( circa 2006) and not perfect in any way. That’s what made it my favorite that year. It was the real us. The “real” that comes through when you spend time with us. Through all of the perfectly posed frames during our photo session, this one was my favorite because it showed who we really were at that season of our lives. I encourage you to send cards that reflect who you are or something that is important to you. Maybe its quirky or off beat but your loved ones will get it and it will warm their hearts across the miles or even just across the street.

Now that I’ve got you all “pep talked” into creating the BEST holiday cards ever, here to help are some great ways to help you capture the photo and make it fun.

4 Fun Photo Ideas for the BEST Holiday Cards

#1 Baby It’s Cold Outside ( or maybe it’s not…)

Believe it or not there is a majority of the country that never sees snow in the winter. Your snowless friends love seeing pics of all that fluffy white stuff! Take your holiday pic outside. Have a snowball fight, build a snowman, or just enjoy the snow falling around you.

Ski, snow, sun and winter fun - happy family ski team

If you do live in the parts of the county that never see a flake,  you aren’t left out. Pair your bikinis with some Santa hats and head to the beach. No matter where you live get outside and include your surroundings in your photos.

#2 Laughing all the way

There is something about seeing others laugh that lifts our spirits too. Let your family get a little silly and just start snapping pictures. There is bound to be at least one that makes you erupt into laughter when you are looking at them after. Chances are that’s your prized shot.

#3 Happy Howl-idays & Meow-y Christmas

If you have furry family members ( no, I’m not talking about your Great Aunt Harriet), make them the holiday star this year. Cats, Dogs, Bunny,  maybe even your  hamster! Pets are a big part of your life so, let them take center stage on your holiday card. C’mon, just this once???

#4 Oh, what Fun! -Add  Props!

Use fun holiday props to add interest to your photos! Think items you already have. Ornaments, bows, strings of lights, candy canes, mistletoe, Considering using that Frosty the snowman you build in the front yard or mugs of hot coco in your jammies around the fireplace. If you happen to have a Santa hat, reindeer nose, scarves and mittens work well for holiday props too!

I can’t wait to see all the fun you guys have creating your holiday cards this year. In fact, I hope to see some of them in my mailbox! Whatever you do make it memorable and know that you really are sending a little bit of cheer with each Christmas card you write.

Happy Holidays Y’all!

Minted also has some of the cutest and most unique designs I’ve seen! I’ll give you a preview of some of the ones I’m considering:

Option 1: I love this one because of it’s ornament shape and it comes with the ribbon to hang it with. I love that our relatives and friends can display it on their tree & the gold glitter accent is darling.  It also allows you to add another picture or custom message on the back.

Option 2: This design caught my eye because we can recap several of our favorite picture and share the memory associated with it. Sometimes it difficult to pick just one picture that captures the feel for a holiday card. This design would be perfect for a family with a growing little one to show how much they’ve grown that year.
