Fitness has become such a big part of our family lifestyle that we were thrilled when we were asked to participate in Fit Made Fun Day with Leap Frog & CLIF Kid! On Saturday September 6th, 300+ kids and families set out to achieve a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD®. In honor of the launch of the new LeapBand activity tracker for kids, Fit Made Fun Day encouraged families to get up and participate in fun creative activities while having fun together. LeapFrog also invited families nationwide to host their own Fit Made Fun Day!

Our Fit Made Fun Party Day with Leapfrog, LeapBand, & CLIF Kid

We had a blast participating in the Fit Made Fun Day record-breaking challenge. We challenged the kids at our party to 3 different activities, with each activity lasting 10 minutes. We also water and plenty of CLIF Kid bars ready at the refreshment table to keep everyone hydrated and properly fueled for activity.

Our first activity challenge was a snorkel dance party. Think freestyle swim while holding your nose and wiggling your body around. We had fun “Under the Sea” music playing to keep us all moving. 1o minutes of continuous dancing is a great workout!

For our next part of the challenge, we made grass angels. These were just like snow angels but on this hot day we could only wish for snow!  When the 10 minutes were up we took a water break and got ready to finish up our challenge.

Our 3rd and final challenge was “Follow the Leader”.One participant was selected as the leader and the other participants were to follow the leaders instruction to complete a movement. Some of the fun ones were “jump like a kangaroo”,  “swim like a stingray”, and “crawl like a bear”.  Believe it or not the adults in our group had done a few “bear crawls” themselves at their workout earlier that morning. We all had a good chuckle when they threw that one out there. Bear crawls are tough!

The kids were so excited to get to try out the LeapBand activity tracker! Our own kids have watched both mom & dad utilize our Fitbits for over a year now to keep us motivated toward health goals. The LeapBand makes physical activity so much fun for kids. It really promotes an active lifestyle and continued healthy habits.

I was curious if the novelty would wear off after our Fit Made Fun party but there are no signs of the excitement slowing. They are loving the LeapBands!! They put them on each morning after their shower. I love that it has a rechargeable battery. We simply charge it on the laptop before they hop into bed at night.

I suspect these will be a HOT Christmas item! You can order yours online or pick one up in stores nationwide. The LeapBand activity tracker (MSRP $39.99) is available now in green, pink and blue. Activities and challenges are free and available for download

Even though the hot temperatures will be cooling off soon be sure to remind your kids ( & yourselves!) to hydrate and fuel their well prior, during and after physical activity. CLIF Kid bars are a great way to do this and can be purchased at H-E-B, Costco, Target, and Walmart. Click here to find them at a retailer near you.

Review: Super Swizz Spiral Slicer

super swizz spiral slicer

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I love getting as many vegetables into my family’s diet as possible. Usually they are on board with it too. Then I started messing with their pastas, substituting spaghetti squash for spaghetti. This took a little getting used to.  Since it was one of my favorite meals, quick and easy to make too, we’ve had this at least once a week.

I may have overplayed my hand…. and they specifically asked we not have spaghetti squash for awhile. ( insert sad mom face here)

Technically…. they said no spaghetti squash but nothing was specified about spaghetti made from other vegetables. My vegetable spaghetti was back on our menu when I found the Super Swizz Spiral Slicer.

The Super Swizz Spiral Slicer is a kitchen tool designed to make raw vegetable “pastas” with ease from carrots, zucchinis and the like. From veggie spaghetti, easy stir fry, to fancy garnishes for the sushi plate, this spiral cutter makes it easy.

To make the spiral slices you simply use  the Super Swizz like a pencil sharpener. There will be a little leftover (like a pencil-sized core) which you can easily slice as normal. It took me a few practice carrots and a zucchini to get the hang of making the perfect spiral slices but when I did It was great. The slicing went super fast and these cooked up easily.  I actually use the Super Swizz Spiral Slicer for adding extra vegetables in my salads too. It makes for a great food garnishes to present  at any meal.

Needless to say we are back to eating vegtable spagetti at our house and the kids like it more because it has a slightly different flavor and they even like using it to make the spirals. I like it because we are still eating healthy AND I have help making dinner!

Vega Bars – My Favorite new Fitness Bar #VegaBar

As a mom of 4, I am forever on the go. I typically try to get the majority of my daily intake to be clean, nutritious, real foods.  With our active lifestyle, I can’t always count on being home and having raw foods available to me.  Protein and snack bars are a great option for times when I can’t leave  work, before a workout, or “Ooops I skipped breakfast”.

I have quickly learned that not all bars are created equal.  As a Sweat Pink Ambassador, I was recently introduced to Vega Bars.  After reading the label ( ALWAYS read the labels!) I was very impressed!!  Vega Bars are non-gmo, gluten free, plant based, and allow nothing artificial in the ingredients.  Pretty great first impression, Right?

To tell if my love was going to last for these new bars, they were going to have to taste as good as they looked.  They look great, right? & chocolate too? YES, PLEASE!  Take a look for yourself :

Six Weeks ‘Til Summer – Hydration

This week I kind of had a freak out. I realized we were sitting just outside SIX WEEKS UNTIL SUMMER.  Did you get that?

Six. Weeks. ‘Til. Summer.

Gah. I mean, overall I have made some amazing changes this year. I’ve made improvements to my diet. We workout several times a week with Camp Gladiator and find ways to get in additional exercise. I’ve maintained my goals I set back January. And I’ve even waved good-bye to several pounds and inches I no longer needed.

All good, right? Soooo, Why the freak out?  Simply this : I am not yet where I want to be. In six weeks I still may not be there, but I am determined to be closer than I was before. I was also kind of at a progress stall too. In fact, I was kind of moving backwards. I needed to do a little reevaluation of what was happening. It took me a few days to figure it all out but I discovered two things holding me back.  Hydration and Sleep. I’m still working to get my sleep schedule fixed up but for today let’s talk about the hydration issue.

I know all the benefits of drinking water and I even really like drinking water! ( Fun Fact: I haven’t had a soda in about 8-9 years and this year switched to green tea instead of black.) I had been drinking water every day but the key was how much water I was taking in.  The success key is making sure to drink enough water daily.  An easy way to estimate the number of ounces you should be drinking is to take your body weight and divide by 2.  Take that number and aim to drink at least that many ounces each day. Once I started doing that, I saw change take place fairly quickly.

Here are some other tips for getting in enough H2O every day:

  • Keep a bottle of water with you during the day. Bring a plastic or glass reusable water bottle everywhere you go and refill it throughout the day.
  • If plain water sounds boring, try infusing your water by adding slices of lemon or fruit to your drink. I will often add a few drops of Young Living essential oils to my glass water bottle.
  • When you are exercising, make sure you drink water before, during and after your workout.
  • Start and end your day with a glass of water.
  • When you’re feeling hungry, drink water. The sensation of thirst is often confused with hunger. True hunger will not be satisfied by drinking water.
  • If you have trouble remembering to drink water, try making a schedule. Make a plan to drink water when you wake up; at breakfast, lunch and dinner; and when you go to bed. Or drink a small glass of water at the top of each hour.
  • Only drink water when you go to a restaurant. It keep you hydrated and it’s free!

What are your best tips for getting in enough water every day?

The Color Run Birthday Party #Happiest5k

Planning our children’s birthday parties are always such fun for me! I love sitting down with them and planning a party centered around their interests at that time of their life. It can be a lot of work too but it is always so interesting to look back, see their smiles and remember how much they loved (insert party theme here) at that stage of their life.Color Run before

Running has become a big part of our lives over the last year. I don’t think I realized just how big until Kaitlyn made it a goal of hers to run in a Color Run 5k in 2014 when we made our “New Year’s Bucket Lists”. Planning this party was even more meaningful knowing we were helping her complete that goal and centering her whole birthday around it. It was one party we will never forget. ( Thanks to Courtney @ for helping make this a success!)

I also knew was going to have to get creative with the party planning because there just weren’t any prepackaged “Color Run Birthday” kits.  Next step, Pinterest. Not many to choose from there either. Of course I DID create one for our party- You can check it all out on our Color Run Birthday board here.

I designed her invitations with a printed paint splash background, vellum overlay with all the party details, and  tied together with multi-colored tulle matching the tutu’s the girls would make and wear during the run. Then we sprayed the envelopes with paint to look like the colors that are thrown during the run. I was so pleased with how they came out (tutorial coming soon!).

The party food and decor was simple. Confetti was a must and we mainly went with a color palette utilizing colors in the run. We served  confetti cookies and mini-cupcakes with sprinkles. Color Run party food

We spent the evening taking fun photo-booth pictures, painting nails, and making tu-tu’s for the girls to run in the next day. Since our main even would be the early the next morning we didn’t want to stay up too late. We got our Color Run swag all laid out ( the Color run is one race that provides several items for beyond a t-shirt for your entry fee) and the girls snuggled in their sleeping bags excited for the morning!color run photo booth

We got there just a little before the run began and were greeted by several sponsors. Kind, Sports Authority, Zico Coconut Water, Nestle, Honest Tea, and Shout all showed up with fun games and tons of giveaways before the run began. We made sure to take photos with as many mascots as possible!

And of course we would need a good “Before Pic” …..

The boys wanted one too….

I was really glad we took those before pics to compare the after pics too. There was a lot of “happy” being thrown around. Our girls looked like smurfs by the end. Color Run smurfscolor run hair

I was so thankful for the industrial blowers at the end of the race to blow off all the extra color! We still ended up with blue toes and color residue in our van.

It was such a fun time for all of us and a memory we will never forget. I think Kaitlyn may be hooked on these fun runs because she has already been asking which one we can do next.
