While I know breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, somehow the rush of getting everyone out the door had me skipping breakfast for myself a lot last year. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. This year, I am making sure to start out each morning with a simple protein packed breakfast ensuring I have the best possible start to each day. Since planning for success is key, I made a list of all the smoothie ingredients I would need on my next shopping trip to Walmart. Most everything was in the produce section with the exception of the Jif Peanut Powder which was easily found in the regular peanut butter section, on the top shelf (only the best for our smoothies!)

Solving Hydration Issues & the Always Discreet Solution

Anytime I notice a stall in my fitness goals or even a backward trend, I reassess my lifestyle. Sometimes it seems that the issue isn’t directly related to how much time I’m spending at the gym, the frequency of my workouts, or eating “bad” foods. Often its little things that can make the difference between moving forward and plateauing.

During my most recent stall (read here to see what fixed it last time) I discovered I wasn’t drinking enough water. I LOVE my h2O. I drink a good deal of water everyday. However, I notice that there is a certain amount of water my body requires to operate most efficiently and help me reach my goals. During the summer, it is 128+ ounces or approx 1 gallon. It may sound like a lot to some but it’s really easy to get in if you just remember to bring a refillable bottle with you throughout your day.

Once I am taking in enough water I start to see progress again. As a mom 4x over, increased water doesn’t come without side effects……

Mo’ Water, Mo’ Problems

Confession: I really believe there isn’t anything I can’t do. I enjoy being active and want to continue to participate in challenging activities. Sometimes too much laughter with my girlfriends can be considered “challenging”.  My bladder on the other hand is not so sure. Combine that with all the extra water and well…you see where I’m going with this right??

My solution to not being super anxious about this is Always Discreet Liners. They are thin enough for me not notice they are there and still provide enough protection when it is needed. With this reassurance, I don’t ever need to hesitate getting the water I need and I can be as active as I like.
Always Discreet gym Bag
Of course I keep them as a staple in my gym bag. I also utilize them for busy days with the kids. Which if I’m being realistic, is like  Anyone else?
Always Discreet Product Line-Up
So that’s another awesome thing I love about Always Discreet. There is a subscription service through that allows them to be shipped directly to your home. I signed up for the convenience but I am also saving money! By subscribing I am saving a % off every time. Signing up was super easy – no extra website to visit! You just check the box next to “subscribe for % off”, directly on,  and the option to choose the frequency of your free delivery will appear. Maybe its more water or having something like Always Discreet delivered to cut out a trip to the store and give you more time or confidence. 3 Healthy Habits Booklets for Girls from Girl Scouts and Together Counts

3 Healthy Habits Booklets for Girls from Girl Scouts and Together Counts

As a young girl, I was very involved in Girl Scouts. While I did just happen to set a cookie-selling record for my district , participating in  Girl Scouts  meant so much more than selling cookies.  I loved learning about nature, camping, and how to be independent. It helped me to develop great friendships and taught me how to be a leader. At camp, I was able to experience so many adventures from archery, rock climbing, to traditional activities like campfires and hiking. I was so excited when my daughter showed interest in Girl Scouts as well. I knew it would provide her with so many of same opportunities that have benefited me.

Healthy Habits

Girl Scouts has been inspiring girls and young women to be confident and active since 1912! They are continuing that tradition today through the Together Counts Program. The Together Counts program is nationwide and provided by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation to inspire active and healthy living through physical activity and nutrition.

The principle behind the program is called Energy Balance, which just means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we expend.
Energy In: the calories you get from eating and drinking.
Energy Out: the calories you burn from physical activities

In partnership with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, Girl Scouts developed three “healthy habits” booklets to easily incorporate energy balance into meetings, outings, events and adventures. The free booklets help guide girls as they learn to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

Turning our Kitchen into a Smart Kitchen with The Countertop

The Mr. and I are all things techie. It’s something that bonds us, I guess. An internal quest we both have to find a better way. Recently, we discovered The Countertop , an amazing device to make our kitchen a little smarter. We are super excited to experience it our home soon and sponsoring our post so we can share all the awesome details of how it works with you!

We have both always drooled over the Smart Home models we’ve seen and tried to figure out how to incorporate those into our own dream home one day. Right now, we are leasing a home in a neighborhood so we are limited to what we can do without major renovations or investments. We recently were introduced to The Countertop. It is a new connected kitchen tool from the Orange Chef that can make recommendations for meals that are delicious, healthy and easy to make. Here’s a little about how it works:

I love that it syncs with appliances we already own like our Vitamix and Crockpot by using a simple adapter. Making our home smarter by utilizing what we already have is brilliant.

It will even sync with your fitness trackers and suggest the the perfect meal designed for your life. The device will also take into account your activity level, personal palate, and nutrition goals and walks you through meals step by step. The Countertop learns your preferences the more you use it.

While it won’t officially be released until the fall, you can be cool kids like us and pre-order now. Receive 50% off when you use this link to place your order.

Have you ever wanted a smart home? What’s the coolest appliance in your kitchen right now?

Healthy Spring Snack Cups – Perfect for Easter!

Healthy Spring Snack Cups

I love celebrating holidays and seasons with fun foods. It’s also important to our family to stay committed to healthy eating. Sure we splurge now and then. For fun daily after school treats and such, I try keep it both fun and nutrition packed. These Healthy Spring Snack cups are a great alternative to “Dirt & Worms” for parties too.

Healthy Spring Snack Cups

• 1 tub (7 oz.) of your favorite original hummus
• 1 package of baby carrots
• 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa
• (optional) celery stock leaves

Supplies Needed:
• A sharp kitchen knife
• Clear plastic cups (found at Dollar Tree)

Healthy Spring Snack cups

1. Using a spoon, fill your plastic cup with the hummus. (1) 7 oz. tub will fill 1 cup entirely to the top. For kids, I purchase smaller sized cups to be able to make several. Otherwise, buy the bulk container.

2. Use a spoon or small food strainer to spread the unsweetened cocoa on the top of the hummus. This will be your “dirt”.
3. Take the pointed end of a knife and hollow out a small hole in the top of a baby carrot.
4. Place a bit of hummus into the hole and place one of the celery leaves in it. This will make it look like a real carrot. (This step is optional)
5. Serve with additional carrots or your favorite pita chips for a delicious and nutritious treat!

These really are so easy that even the kids can assemble them themselves! What are your favorite healthy snacks and treats to serve this time of year?
