I love getting as many vegetables into my family’s diet as possible. Usually they are on board with it too. Then I started messing with their pastas, substituting spaghetti squash for spaghetti. This took a little getting used to.  Since it was one of my favorite meals, quick and easy to make too, we’ve had this at least once a week.

I may have overplayed my hand…. and they specifically asked we not have spaghetti squash for awhile. ( insert sad mom face here)

Technically…. they said no spaghetti squash but nothing was specified about spaghetti made from other vegetables. My vegetable spaghetti was back on our menu when I found the Super Swizz Spiral Slicer.

The Super Swizz Spiral Slicer is a kitchen tool designed to make raw vegetable “pastas” with ease from carrots, zucchinis and the like. From veggie spaghetti, easy stir fry, to fancy garnishes for the sushi plate, this spiral cutter makes it easy.

To make the spiral slices you simply use  the Super Swizz like a pencil sharpener. There will be a little leftover (like a pencil-sized core) which you can easily slice as normal. It took me a few practice carrots and a zucchini to get the hang of making the perfect spiral slices but when I did It was great. The slicing went super fast and these cooked up easily.  I actually use the Super Swizz Spiral Slicer for adding extra vegetables in my salads too. It makes for a great food garnishes to present  at any meal.

Needless to say we are back to eating vegtable spagetti at our house and the kids like it more because it has a slightly different flavor and they even like using it to make the spirals. I like it because we are still eating healthy AND I have help making dinner!

Review: Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about the benefits of adding Turmeric to your diet.  Many recent articles recommend it for lowering blood sugar, supporting joint health , improving digestion, and protecting the liver.   Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract is also well know for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

With the frequent running and workouts we participate in weekly, we often feel the need to take something to relieve the discomfort from our training. In the past, we would have just taken an ibuprofen or three without thinking twice. Taking these pain relief methods regularly can put a strain on your body over time. Taking a natural anti-inflammatory instead was something  I had been looking into. When asked to review Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract, I jumped at the chance.

Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract

I began taking the Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract after one of our workouts a few weeks ago. I took it 1 capsule every day for two weeks. I was very pleased with how effective it was and how great I felt. It also gave me peace of mind that what I was putting in my body was 100% organic and Non GMO. I am all for finding the most effective natural solutions for our health. If you are experiencing any type of joint pain or arthritis I would highly recommend trying this to relieve your discomfort.  Here are some additional information on Pure Turmeric Curcumin Extract.

TV Review: ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ Hallmark Channel

Flipping on the television with the family and just sitting down to enjoy a show isn’t as easy as it used to be. I often find myself on “high alert” watching for scenes to flip past or phrases I may have to explain later. This doesn’t make for the relaxing family time it was intended to be. The producer of Touched By An Angel, Martha Williamson, has partnered with The Hallmark Channel to introduce ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’, a television series that may be just what we’ve been looking for.

Signed Sealed Delivered

‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’

‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ presents elements of comedy, drama, and innocent romance as the show follows the lives of four postal workers who transform themselves into a team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Their missions take them out of the office where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures by arriving late but somehow always on time. The team includes Oliver O’Toole (Eric Mabius), a genius postal detective and the group’s leader; new team member, Shane McInerney (Kristin Booth), a technophile who brings 21st century sensibility to the group; free-spirited, “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Crystal Lowe) who has a photographic memory; and lovable Norman Dorman (Geoff Gustafson), a master in conventional research methods. The show airs Sundays, 8/7c on Hallmark.

Our family reviewed an upcoming episode over the weekend and had a great time watching it together. The sets were wonderfully designed. There were several great messages, a few laughable scenes, and something that just inspires the “goodness” in everyone to come out. It feels like reading a Hallmark card. There were parts of the script that were a little cheezy but I never worried about what might be seen or heard if I had to step out of the room.

With relaxed summer bedtimes, we will often allow our kids the luxury of  “one more show”. The American Bible Society has built a bible study to go with the series. Each episode will have a seven-day Bible reading experience to look deeper into biblical themes revealed in each episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered. This makes it a great show to transition to bedtime with and can easily be incorporated as family devotional.

The Bible Reading Experience is free and currently available for one week only. You can sign up for the  bible study here: http://www.americanbible.org/features/signed-sealed-delivered
