Are you Costume Ready for Halloween?

With Halloween just around the corner, it was time for us to get our costumes in gear.  Each time I have planned too far in advance there are always literal last-minute costume changes. This Sunday I enlisted the help of Dr. Seuss and KidzVuz.com to sponsor this post and help us put on our thinking caps for a great Halloween planning session.

Believe it or not, capturing the attention of teens often requires a little something to keep them busy while we talk through ideas. This Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Bricky Blocks Build on Snapback Hat and Grinch knee highs helped to not only get them in the mood for dressing up but also helped keep them entertained while we talked.

Sebastian went right for building with the Dr. Seuss Bricky Blocks Build-On Snapback Hat Kit and Kaitlyn loved The Grinch Knee High Socks.

The Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat snapback hat kit includes hat, pieces, and a guide for building your own designs. The hat size is adjustable and fits most kids and even adults so you even mom and dad can have a turn with it.

Sometimes it just takes a simple gesture to show your family that no matter how much you’ve grown up it’s still fun to be silly together. We went through several ideas but it didn’t take long before we were laughing and had our costumes all planned out. It looks like I’ll be ordering a few more things from elope.com for our final family Halloween look. Stay tuned for a final reveal Oct 31st!

Do you know what your family will be dressing up for this Halloween?

Turn frowns upside down on rainy days with this Dr. Seuss The Cat in the Hat Bricky Blocks Build-on Snapback Kit by elope. Road Trips Redefined : The Only Three Things You Need On The Road with Kids

If you’ve been following us for any amount of time, you know we love to road trip. There is not a single road trip that is too long or short for us to venture out on. We’ve pretty much had it down to a science and could get off work Friday afternoon, throw the essentials in a bag, and be out the door for a weekend away in no time. Now that we are planning road trips with a tiny human again, we’ve been rethinking our minimalist packing strategy. How much more will we really need? Thanks to a partnership with Red Tricycle and Amazon we’ve discovered there are really only three things you need on the road with kids of any age.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids edition tablet

After a lot of consideration, we’ve determined that there really are only three things you need on the road with kids. Yes, only three, really! Keep reading to see what they are. I promise it will simplify your packing and ensure a ensure a perfect road trip designed with kids in mind.

Road Trips Redefined : The Only Three Things You Need On The Road with Kids

Before year one you probably can get by with “Oh the baby will just sleep in the car.” If only it were that simple in the few years afterward. Those of you with small ones know that packing the car with the right gear can make all the difference. With our older children, a weekend away would mean a stop at the grocery store to stock up on snacks and then by the library to pick out books to be read on our trip. If the vehicle we were driving had a dvd player, we would also pick out a couple of movies to borrow as well. These movies we would watch over, and over, and over. Yes, we all remember the cross country summer marathon viewing party of Elf. It brought a whole new meaning to Christmas in July.

Entertainment

Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition

The Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet has revolutionized our road trip entertainment options. So much of my previous errand running is totally eliminated. It saves space in the vehicle and it’s portable. I can download their favorite movies, books, and apps at home before we go so that everything is accessible when we are on the road without wifi.  There are 15,000 books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games to choose from and Fire Kids Edition includes a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited at no additional cost.

It also comes in this awesome kid-proof case, your choice of color, so you don’t have to worry about sitting right beside them in the car. On top of that the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet comes with a 2-year worry free guarantee. Really, you don’t have to worry!

My favorite part of this tablet is that it’s designed for ages 3-12 so it can grow with the age ranges of our family for years. We can also set up separate profiles on one device and switch users. With most vehicles having the outlet to recharge in the back we can even charge our device on the go so I’m not having to monitor power usage.

Snacks

Snacks are always going to be important because you never know when traffic will have you stalled or when other that roadside diner looks less than desirable. Also, road trips by definition require snacks. Here are a few snack suggestions and tactics to make this as easy as possible.

Amazon Fire 7 Road Trip Snacks ideas

  1. Do not go to the grocery store for the pre- road trip snack run- AMAZON PRIME will deliver it to your door!!
  2. Get a good mix of fruit, dry snacks – think easy to vacuum up- like cheerios. My favorite is the individual breakfast boxes. Also add in some pouches that are easy to hand out and have hidden veggies.
  3. Add in a few of their favorites that you reserve for luring them back into the car with. After several hours on the road, even I need an incentive to get back in my seat.
  4. Reusable water bottles. We make sure everyone has their own and we refill them when we stop for bathroom breaks. Staying hydrated is super important and this is a great way to keep track when traveling. Reusable bottles are also good for the environment.

Roadside Attractions

Roadside attractions are definitely something you should plan for. You are going to need to get out and stretch your legs or maybe the roadside attraction is just part of a day trip. Either way these make the trip fun for the kids and they are super great photo-ops for your Instagram presence. You know you’ll have to stop for bathroom breaks and to refill your water bottles so why not make it a fun one.

Roadtrippers app Amazon Fire 7

Need some help finding unique spots along the way?

Roadtrippers.com is one of my favorite sites to help plan your trip and they even have an app in case your route changes you can find new stops along the way.

Roadsideamerica.com has several forums of user suggestions and feedback on what is worth visiting and RoadTripAmerica.com will create a map of all your stops and is available as an to download in the app store for iPhone users also.

Bonus Tip Amazon Fire 7

*Bonus idea: Life is messy.

Before you take off, loop a reusable tote bag around the headrest for trash or for items you need to locate quickly (charging cords, change of clothes, etc. When my other kids were small they hated wearing shoes in the car so once they were buckled in their car seats, I would immediately take off their shoes and put them in this bag that way I wasn’t searching the car trying to find shoes. If you aren’t in that stage anymore it’s still a great way to keep the car tidy when traveling!

In the next week or so I’ll be listing our favorite Amazon Fire Kids apps, video, and book recommendations for various age ranges so be on the look out for that! If you are considering purchasing an Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet for your family (Fire HD 8 Kids Edition tablet an 8” HD Display, 32 GB of storage and a kid-proof case $129.99 or the Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet 7” display, 16 GB of storage, kid-proof case $99.99) feel free to ask any questions in the comments below or on our social channels. I’m happy to share what I know! Feel free to connect with us anytime!

Thanks again to Amazon for providing the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet you’ve see in the pictures above and for sponsoring this post!! We appreciate your partnership in helping us share great stories.

Santa Babies : Meeting Santa for the first time

One tiny human meets Santa

Woah, guys… Do you know who this guy is???? I hear he’s kind of a big deal.

We’ve all seen the semi-hilarious first photos with Santa that have taken turn for the worse. As with any first, no one can reallllly gauge what’s going to happen. I mean, this is legitimately the first time your child has seen someone dressed this way. If we’re being honest, that much red and fur combined is a BOLD choice for even the most magical of us. Bottom line, you just never really know how it’s going to go the first time your baby sees Santa.

This year my sister Baileigh, and brother-in-law Aaron had the BRILLIANT idea of inviting Santa over for the babies first visit. Bella, our “One Tiny Human” and our nephew, Harrison had a very special first visit with the man in the red suit and his lady this weekend.

Santa Babies : Meeting Santa for the first time

One Tiny Human with Santa

These guys have snacks, smell like peppermints, and are super cuddly. I think I like them.

They were so sweet with the babies and spent plenty of time getting know them, not being rushed through the moment. It allowed us to capture a few special pictures like when they were reading to them. We were able to enjoy coffee,  warm cocoa and Christmas cookies while the kids chatted with the Claus couple. It was a huge difference from the traditional mall Santa experiences that we’ve done before.

One Tiny Human and Harrison read with Santa

“Twas the night before Christmas…” read by Santa and Mrs Claus. So precious!

And because no one can resist a picture with Santa we jumped in front of the camera for a quick snapshot too. I think I will always love the magic of Christmas. (I am also kind of in love with Randy’s Christmas pug sweater.)

Family Santa Pic

Time for a family picture. The magic of Christmas is real no matter how old you get.

Family Santa pic with one tiny human

I highly recommend this for a first Santa experience or a 100th Santa experience for that matter. as you can tell, meeting Santa in this way completely put the babies at ease and we all had a lovely time together. We were able to capture some of the sweetest pics that I’m sure we’ll treasure forever.

Have you ever had a Santa come to your house? What was it like when you took your child to meet Santa for the first time ?

Holiday Magic is Everywhere in Arlington Texas

Enchant Christmas Arlington Texas

Last Friday, I was invited to spend the day touring some of the things the city of Arlington, Texas has in store for us this holiday season. You already know Arlington offers so much to take part in all year-long but this season is especially fun! First stop on our tour was Decorator’s Warehouse. It has been recognized for years as the premiere Christmas store throughout Texas. Owners David and Kathy Hanson, who started the business in 1989, have pursued with great passion the design and creation of a Christmas store that would be unparalleled anywhere.

They also feature the largest selection of Christmas trees in Texas as well as ornaments, wreaths, garlands, florals and everything else known to the imagination.
